Acer Aspire AS6930-6942 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T6400

Acer Aspire AS6930-6942 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 Pros: Fast, Fast, FastAwesome specs for price range. Played first 30 min of crysis on all medium settings great. 4 gigs ram and 64 bit OS (see cons). The pictures make this beautiful laptop look ugly. It has a dark metallic blue top and shiny keyboard. Acer symbol lights up while in use. Speakers are decent but nothing spectacular.
Cons: Fingerprints stick all over cover and a little on the keyboard. 64 bit operating system is not for everyone, however I have not been to inconvenienced just know what your getting into. Screen resolution could be better (still looks great)

SONY VAIO FW Series VGN-FW373J

SONY VAIO FW Series VGN-FW373J Pros: The display is beyond beautiful with the FULLHD and 1920x1080 resolution. I never knew how terribly my desktop's display looked until I placed this next to it during setup.Design is sleek and comfortable to rest hands on.Keyboard was very easy to transition to. (Almost seamless.)Plays L4D on mostly high settings with 2x MSAA anti-aliasing and Anisotropic 2x. (Avg 30fps with background apps)Runs very quiet.
Cons: Left/right-click buttons are a little loud, but I just tap the touchpad most of the time anyways. I also had to boost the response of the touchpad in the control panel, but now it works beautifully.A lot of bloatware.Speakers are okay, but definitely not the greatest. However, I will almost always have this thing hooked up to my speakers

TOSHIBA Satellite L305-S5921 Rebuttal Reviewed By: on 2/12/2009

Tech Level: high - Ownership: 1 day to 1 week
Pros: No problems with the unit. It would have been a stellar buy with a core 2 duo but for what it's worth and what it is used for there is no need at this time.
Cons: Just that the back light on the lCD screen could have been specced out a little better I suppose.
Other Thoughts: Contrary to the information given by a previous reviewer I would like to state that the branding of the Toshiba logo probably equates to the same or less square units of real estate than any counterpart branding/labeling. Please, In the future look at all of the photos before making a review which might point a consumer in the wrong direction. The information presented was completely false and that is all

HP Mini 2140

HP's Business Netbook Dazzles With Dullness
Third time's a charm? HP tries yet again to crack the netbook market, and its third endeavor is its best entry yet.
Using the Mini 2133 as a base design (complete with anodized aluminum case, bezel-free LCD, and spacious keyboard), the Mini 2140 has upped the flagship netbook's screen size to 10.2 inches (though HP claims it 10.1), which lets the keyboard grow to 92 percent of full size. Vista has been ditched in favor of XP, and HP also adds a couple of netbook rarities here, including an SD slot and an ExpressCard port for your WWAN card (or whatever else that port is ever used for). There's even an accelerometer which parks the hard drive if a drop is underway, and the keyboard is spillproof.
Some nifty add-ons, yes, but ultimately the 2140 looks and feels awfully familiar, not just in design but also in under the hood specs from the CPU (1.6GHz Atom) to the RAM (1GB) to the hard drive (160GB), components which are quickly becoming standard in the netbook space. Performance is average, too though the 2140 wouldn't run Quake at our usual benchmark resolution

HP TouchSmart tx2z

HP's New Multitouch PC Craves Your Grope
HP has been tinkering with touch tech for a couple of years. But they have yet to nail the bull's eye with a machine that mixes mature hardware with a haptic interface that feels like more than just a half-assed effort.
So, we were cautiously optimistic with the TouchSmart tx2z. The good news? As HP's first multitouch convertible tablet, it's got a lot of potential.
First off, the tx2z's touch interface has improved. The marketing jargon for the expanded interface is "capacitive multitouch technology" which translates to sophisticated multifinger gestures like pinching, rotating, flicking, double-tapping and dragging for navigation. The big difference is that these functions aren't buried within a touch-based software suite. Want to zoom/shrink, or scroll within programs like Firefox, MS Office, or even the desktop? All it takes is a little pinching and poking on the tx2z's screen. Although the 12-inch display doesn't provide tons of space for all the hot fUnfortunately, HP didn't build the otherwise decent tx2z on the strongest foundation. Even with its 2.4-GHz AMD Dual Core processor and 4 GB of RAM, the 64-bit version of Vista it shipped with ran freakishly slow. Granted, a lot of the lag was due to the ridiculous amount of bloatware that launched during startup — but a five-minute boot-up on a spanking new notebook is unforgivable.inger-on-touchscreen action, it's a small quibble given the screen's overall responsivenes

Gateway MD7826u

Gateway's Latest Laptop is a Lofty Loser
You win some, you lose some. Take Gateway for example. Its big P- 7811FX gaming laptop is a winner: cheap, a great performer and pretty to look at. Loser? Gateway's MD7826u. This clunker hides under a sheen of coolness that quickly fades, revealing a mediocre laptop dressed in a tuxedo T-shirt and Payless shoes.
In the context of other consumer electronics the MD7826u is not a horrible piece of hardware — it just comes up short in a couple of critical areas. It is cheap though: $1,000 will get you the notebook and leave you with enough cash for a 20-ounce Tall Boy. Its Intel Core 2 Duo P8400, 4 GB of RAM, 320 GB hard drive and ATI Radeon 3600 offer solid oomph for business and casual gaming. Its burgundy case and black trim lends a touch of swank, albeit an aesthetic only Ron Burgundy would appreciate. Movies look good if you can tolerate the hobbled controls of Windows Media Center, and the 8-cell battery will hold up for 2 1-2 hours

Intel Launches New Desktop Processor

Intel Launches New Desktop Processor Intel plans to launch its newest generation of desktop processors on Monday. Called Core i7, the chips are aimed at the high-end desktop and gaming market.
The move puts Intel ahead of its rival AMD by more than a few months, as AMD's comparable desktop processor isn't scheduled to launch until early next year.
"AMD now just doesn't have a competitive chip against Intel on the desktop," says Patrick Wang, an analyst with brokerage firm Wedbush Morgan. The Core i7 will be almost four to six times faster than Intel's current platform, says the company, and will have greater power efficiency than ever. It is based on the 45-nanometer production technology that first appeared in a server chip called Xeon (aka Penryn), which debuted earlier this year.
The 45-nm chips utilize smaller circuitry than the previous, 65-nm generation, making them faster, and also enabling Intel to manufacture them more cheaply.
And until AMD launches its product, Intel is going to be the only option for consumers who want the latest chips for their computers, says Wang.

ASUS EeePC 1000HE

ASUS EeePC 1000HE ASUS is well into double digits in the number of netbook variants it has launched, and this seasoning has finally paid off with its best one yet. What's more, the ASUS EeePC 1000HE ($400 street) dethrones the MSI Wind as the leader of the pack of pint-sized laptop wannabes. What puts it on top is not its use of the first-ever Intel Atom N280 processor or its elegantly tucked-away six-cell battery, or even its revamped keyboard. In a category where price sensitivity is paramount, the 1000HE is the new Editors' Choice because it delivers all of these things at a low price. iZ3D 22-inch LCD MonitorWhen I reviewed the iZ3D 17-inch monitor back in 2006, I was impressed with its ability to display 3D images without the need for a cumbersome headset but lamented its hefty price tag. This time around, iZ3D's 22-inch widescreen model lists at a more reasonable $399, and, like its predecessor, it delivers terrific 3D effects. Apple iMac (20-Inch Aluminum

The latest iteration of the Apple iMac ($1,499 direct with 1GB of RAM, $1,649 with 2GB of RAM) comfortably straddles the worlds of consumer and business. It's the fourth generation of the popular system, if you count the first as the CRT G3 iMacs, the second as the "Luxo-style" iMac G4, and the third as the white plastic iMac G5 and Intel systems. Though the last white iMac was marketed as the "consumer Mac" (the Mac Pro was the "professional Mac"), the latest iMac doesn't fall into the pigeonholes of "business" or "consumer." Its aluminum and black appearance can work in the home, next to your iPhone, or in the office next to your Aeron chair. With its Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows compatibility, it is certainly the "computer for the rest of us," making good on the promises put forth in the original "1984" Macintosh ads. Review of Lenovo IdeaPad S10

Review of Lenovo IdeaPad S10Full review of Lenovo IdeaPad S10
Seeing that a majority of netbooks are based on the Intel Atom N270 CPU, GMA950 graphics, and Windows XP Home as the operating system (the s10 being no exception), you have to look at what other features it brings to the table. Besides the eye-pleasing and MacBook-like design, the base model of Lenovo's S10 is actually not that well equipped compared to similar netbooks. It has an 80GB hard drive and only 512MB of RAM, although most buyers will probably throw in an extra $50 and get the 160GB hard drive Performance and Battery Life
In our WorldBench test, the S10 delivered a score of 29, which is a slightly lower score than the competition, but this can probably be attributed to the 512MB of RAM. Upgrade to a gig of RAM and you will probably see an improvement to a score in line with other netbooks. According to Lenovo, you should be able to get almost 4 hours of battery life, but in the real world - with Wi-Fi on and screen brightness turn up - you'll be lucky to get 3:30 out of the 3-cell battery. This is to be expected from a 3-cell, but it would have been nice to at least have the option to get it with a 6-cell. and 1GB RAM. Lenovo IdeaPad S10 Technical Specifications

Review of Lenovo IdeaPad Y530

Review of Lenovo IdeaPad Y530Full review of Lenovo IdeaPad Y530
The Y530 uses Intel processors from the Centrino 2 lineup; our model came with a P7350, 2GHz Core 2 Duo, 250GB hard drive, 2GB RAM, and last but not least a dedicated GeForce 9300M GPU.
Design and Features
For a 15.4-inch laptop, the IdeaPad Y530 is quite heavy at 6.6 lbs / 2.96 kg, but in return it feels very sturdy and solid. Being a Lenovo laptop, it has a characteristically low-key, elegant design. Although the IdeaPad consumer laptops are somewhat more exciting than Lenovo's ThinkPad business laptops. The Intel P7350 is a fairly powerful processor with a 2.0GHz clock and the latest 1066MHz front side bus. Our review model came with a standard 5,400rpm hard drive, but it can also be configured with desktop-speed 7,200rpm drives, which should boost everyday performance somewhat.
The 9300M GS graphics card from Nvidia is a lower-end solution that is able to play some games, but newer games will only run smoothly at lower settings and resolutions

Fujitsu Lifebook T1010

An all-around solid performer in basic day-to-day use, the Fujitsu T1010 won't turn heads, but it'll get the job done.
Starting at $1399, Fujitsu's LifeBook T1010 delivers on some of the promises of an all-purpose laptop. With solid general-use performance--and Tablet PC functionality--it's built to move with you. However, the less-than-stellar display, tinny audio, and a handful of annoyances will turn off some potential buyers. (Fujitsu offers other convertible tablets, including the LifeBook T2010 and the LifeBook U810, both released earlier this year.)

A good overall package, the Lifebook T1010 sports a 2.26-GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of memory, and a 120GB hard drive--great for anyone who wants a general-purpose notebook. The T1010 runs a brisk race, earning a score of 86 in our WorldBench tests, which puts it squarely in the middle of the performance pack. It certainly won't challenge the Micro Express JFL9290--one of the fastest laptops we've tested--but on the other hand, it sprints past Toshiba's Satellite Pro L300D.

Tech guy lan

I’ve been using my Dell Latitude c640 for over a year now, and so far I’ve been working great for me. It has a very standard set of hardware, which means that I can explore operating systems to my heart's content. It has a Pentium 4 CPU, ATI Radeon 7500 for graphics, and an Intel chipset. This means that I'm able to install Ubuntu, my main OS, without any extra configuration at all. My video card is old enough that the Open Source drivers from the X.Org foundation work just fine, and it's new enough that I'm able to enjoy all the eye candy that X has to offer and an occasional 3D game.I've also had some success installing Mac OS X Tiger on this machine, although getting Quartz Extreme to work was a bit of an adventure. The important part to note here however is that I DID get it to work; this is more than many people can say who have tried it. It's a pain to get compatible hardware on the desktop, let alone a laptop, so I'm extremely lucky.

First sony VAIO P reviews

You can’t judge a netbook by its cover. With its amazing looks, the Sony VAIO P Series landed a spot on nearly everyone’s Best of CES list. But only a few days after the curtain came down, the first full reviews have been posted, and it looks like the “LifeStyle PC” may not be the showstopper it seemed.
It’s easy to see why so many tech journalists fell for the P Series. The extra-wide 8-inch display results in a netbook that is uniquely long and lean, weighing only 1.4 pounds. Despite its tiny size, it has a good keyboard and features not found in most netbooks such as a high-resolution display (1,600 x 768, in this case), integrated 3G and GPS. So far so good.
Then came the actual tests. How’s this for a list of “cons” for a netbook that starts at $900 from PC Magazine’s review:
Underpowered. Bloated with software. Three-cell battery yields only 2 hours of battery life. Needs another price adjustment.
