iPower GX: a laptop gaming rig
HP HDX X16
Another of HP’s winners, it is a full HD laptop, capable of attaining the full 1,920×1,080 resolution. Deemed as an ideal replacement for an ailing desktop, it has a crisp and bright display screen at 16 inches is truly a sight to see and coupled with the BluRay optical drive, it makes movie viewing a breeze. Loaded with a 2.26 Gz processor with Intel’s Core 2 Duo P800 processor and 4GB’s of ram it it fast, though not as fast as people would expect it to be with that processing power contained within. External devices can be easily connected with a FireWire, HDMI, and d-Sub connector for those cameras and external display devices. It does sport quite a slick finish that is quite childish to some and the ultra-glossy finish tends to be prone to finger smudges and other greasy stuff as you much away and continue to blog or finish your report that was due a few hours ago. Fujitsu Siemens LifeBook T5010
Considered as a convertible with the swivel display and heavy case, you might have to shore up those arms to lug this beast around. It has a 13.3 inch large screen and is loaded with BlueTooth 2.1 mobile broadband from a Sierra Wireless MC8790 module, Intel’s WiFi Link 5300 (802.11 a/b/g plus draft n) and an optional GigaBit Ethernet option for wired network connection. HP DV3-2055EA
The PC maker has long been a favorite of laptop users due to their full line of products that caters to many products that are for people from all walks of life. The specific model has a full keyboard with a 13.3 inch chassis that sports the standard layout, but they tend to rattle a bit, reminiscent of tactile keyboards. They have the always present track pad and two keys that offers a very nice option and finished with a mirror-like tone it is a nifty pad to use indeed. The tiny button is still there to allow easy turn-off of the Synaptics keypad letting you turn it off when using an external mouse. [Read more →]

Samsung R510
As with the many brands, this laptop comes in many models so we’ll be doing a general review of the overall feature. For one, it has a very hygienic keypad coating that uses silver ions to kill bacteria (considering the crazy things we do with our laptops, that’s a very good idea). Samsung hasn’t skimped on styling with a shiny gloss finish on the display cover that shifts to deep red making it a thing of beauty. Powered by an Intel Core 2 Duo running at 2GHz with 4 GB of ram with a video card from the same manufacturer, an Intel GMA X4500HD combined in the GM45 Express Chipset. The optical drive is LightScribe capable and a hard drive that can range from 120 to 320 GBytes. [Read more →]

Laptop buying tips
Read reviews. An important part of online research on tech products is to read a significant number of reviews about it. This way, you arent just basing your decision on specifications (specs) but also on how these products actually perform and what experts think of them.
Comparing prices before the actual purchase is also recommended. Once youve narrowed down your choices to a few, see if theyre available in your area. Going around stores and asking for prices will help you get the best value for your money.
Dont forget about promos! Ask around what promos of freebies are included in your purchase. Especially with laptops, certain stores provide extra freebies like printers, USB flash drives, and other peripherals when you purchase from them.

Ultra-Portables Worth It?
Depending on what you’ll be using it for, may be the best question to ask. For browsing and access to the social net on the go, they may have enough juice to get you through. But if you expect usability comparable with their more traditional counterparts, you’re out of luck for they still suffer from limited battery power which powers them to around four hours (or five for some). Some of the lightest ones also do away with the hard drive, one of the biggest power users in traditional laptops, opting to use solid state memory of up to 60 or 100 gigabytes. They have access through the USB port for external drives but they better come with their own power source or battery or you subtract more form the dismal power situation.
